Champions League Preview
It was a fantastic return to Champions League action last week and one filled with goals, with a 4-0 Milan drubbing of Arsenal, a professional handling of Leverkusen by Barcelona in a 3-1 victory and a goalfest in St Petersburg which Zenit sneaked 3-2 against Benfica.
This week there is another batch of Round of 16, 1st Leg matches with Chelsea, Inter, Real Madrid and Bayern all in action and looking to put one foot in the quarter finals! If the goalfest of last week fails to materialise, then it’s not a problem as Unibet will refund all Correct Score, Frist/Last Goalscorer and HT/FT bets on any match that finishes 0-0!
CSKA Moscow vs Real Madrid
The two teams have never met before but if Real Madrid continue in the form they showed in the group stages then an away victory looks on the cards. They scored an impressive 19 goals in the groups, conceding only 2 goals and had 3 clean sheets away from home! CSKA Moscow lost twice at home in the groups to Inter and Lille, their solitary home victory a 3-0 win over Trabzonspor. Madrid are just 1.08 to reach the next round whilst a Moscow upset is priced at 7.50 at Unibet. Remember to place your bets early on this one as the kick-off is an earlier than usual 18.00 CET!
Napoli v Chelsea
Napoli have already dispatched of one Premier League club, Manchester City and will be looking to add another English scalp to their collection on Tuesday night. Once again, the two teams have never met and Chelsea will be hoping to overcome a tough statistic – no foreign team has won in Naples since Eintracht Frankfurt in 1994. Not only that, but in 7 previous visits to Italy Chelsea have won only once! Chelsea did manage to top their group but did so without any away victories whilst Napoli recorded home victories against Villarreal, Manchester City and a draw against Bayern Munich. Chelsea are 1.53 at Unibet to reach the next round and Napoli are 2.50.
Basel vs Bayern Munich
Wednesday night and Basel will be looking to build on their shock elimination of Manchester United with victory over 4 time winners Bayern Munich! They will be looking to improve upon their home record against Bundesliga opposition however, as they have suffered 4 defeats in 5 matches against German sides. Bayern have won 6 of their last 9 away games in the Champions League and qualified comfortably, top of their group. Any team who can draw 3-3 at Old Trafford and then beat Manchester United in a “winner takes all” match are worth their place in the Last 16 – even so Basel are 7.00 to reach the quarter finals and Bayern 1.10 to qualify.
Marseille vs Inter
There will be no love lost between Inter’s Ranieri and Marseille’s Deschamps after Deschamps’s Monaco knocked Ranieri’s Chelsea out of the Champions League semi-finals in 2004. Inter will travel to France having won 7 points from 9 in the group stages whilst Monaco lost twice on home turf. Inter suffered from one of the biggest shocks in the group stages losing at home to Trabzonspor but bounced back to win the group. All of their matches were very tight however with them never winning or losing by more than a single goal. Marseille were also a little inconsistent but stronger in defence conceding only 4 goals in the group stages. Inter are 1.55 to qualify and Marseille 2.45 at Unibet in what is potentially the toughest match to pick a winner from!
