It was a busy week for the MLS Disciplinary Committee with three fines announced Friday. Here's the rundown:
Charlie Davies -- The D.C. United forward was fined $1,000 for "putting the game into disrepute" by diving late in a June 18 game against Real Salt Lake. The offense drew a penalty kick that allowed D.C. to tie the game. Future offenders could face suspension.
"The MLS Disciplinary Committee ruled that Charlie Davies intentionally deceived the officials and gained an unfair advantage which directly impacted the match," said MLS Executive Vice President Nelson Rodriguez in a release. "This type of behavior tarnishes the image of the League, is detrimental to the game and will not be tolerated."
Los Angeles Galaxy -- The MLS team was fined $5,000 for "deliberately omitted David Beckham's name from their injury report despite knowing that he would miss the game because of back spasms." This happened before a June 18 road game against the Colorado Rapids.
New York Red Bulls -- The MLS team was fined $10,000 for Erik Soler's public criticism of a referee after Sunday's game in Portland. The general manager called the ref's performances, among other things, "completely unacceptable."
"The statement released by Red Bull New York this week undermines our substantial efforts to continue improving all aspects of our competition," MLS Commissioner Don Garber said.
